Bill Hamilton may have said far more than he intended during his private conversation with Joey Armstrong. On the surface, Bill was confronting his own mortality and making arrangements for the people he loves. But one particular description of his past changes the entire tone of that meeting. Bill talked about being the person who made problems “disappear.” Those words might sound harmless coming from a powerful attorney—until you remember exactly who was sitting across from him.
Joey Armstrong is not an ordinary friend. His world has repeatedly been connected to gambling schemes, leverage, dangerous assignments, and people willing to cross lines others would never touch. Kat recently discovered something crucial about Randy. He is not simply hanging around Joey or trapped by gambling debt. Randy works for Joey. That revelation becomes much darker when combined with what has already been established about their history. Randy has been used in Joey’s operations before, including the manipulation surrounding Doug. More seriously, Randy was previously given a hit assignment. That alone proves Joey’s definition of “work” can extend far beyond ordinary casino business.
Suddenly, Randy looks less like an employee and more like a fixer.
And now that fixer appears to be cracking.
Mona can see that something is wrong with Randy. She recognizes that Joey’s assignments are eating away at him, describing the effect as a “slow leak in the soul.” Randy has also indicated that the work could potentially get him killed. Those details matter because they arrive while the story is simultaneously emphasizing Bill’s extraordinary trust in Joey.
Bill is moving closer to Joey just as Randy appears desperate to escape him.
That parallel could be setting up something explosive.
What exactly has Randy been asked to do? How many dangerous assignments came before the current one? And how many powerful people benefited from those assignments without ever getting their own hands dirty?
That is where Bill’s language becomes especially suspicious.
Perhaps Bill was the man who knew which problems needed solving. Joey may have been the man with the network to solve them. Randy could have been the person actually sent into the shadows to finish the job.
The Doug situation already provides a disturbing blueprint. Joey wanted leverage over Doug. Randy became involved. Doug was pulled deeper into Joey’s world, while Randy eventually struggled with guilt over what was happening. The pattern is remarkably simple: Joey identifies what needs to happen, Randy performs the dangerous work, and Randy is left carrying the moral consequences.
But what if Doug was not the first?
Bill has spent years operating around powerful people and complicated secrets. His comment about making problems disappear suggests he understands how ugly protecting powerful families can become. His relationship with Joey suggests an unusual level of mutual confidence. Joey’s relationship with Randy demonstrates that Joey has access to someone capable of performing jobs that cannot easily be connected back to him.
Put those pieces together and a much darker possibility emerges.
Bill may know exactly what Joey is capable of because he has benefited from Joey’s methods before.
If that is true, Randy becomes incredibly dangerous.
Joey can deny giving orders. Bill can distance himself from whatever happened. Powerful people can bury paperwork, manipulate narratives, and pretend they knew nothing. Randy does not have that luxury. If he was physically carrying out Joey’s assignments, he could know who was targeted, what evidence disappeared, who gave the orders, and which secrets were never completely buried.
And Randy is developing a conscience.
That could make Mona far more important than she realizes. She has already confronted Joey over the dangerous work Randy is doing. If she continues pushing Randy to leave, he may eventually face an impossible choice: protect Joey or finally reveal what he knows.
Kat could make that decision even more urgent. She now knows Randy works for Joey. If she keeps digging, the investigation may move from Randy to Joey—and eventually toward the powerful people Joey has helped.
That is where Bill could find himself in serious trouble.
The cruelest twist would be that Bill has just entrusted Chelsea and Naomi to the same man who may know where his oldest secrets are buried. Perhaps Bill chose Joey because he considers him a loyal friend.
Or perhaps Bill trusts Joey because the two men already know too much about each other.
Either way, Joey may not be the biggest threat anymore.
Randy is.
Because Bill may have spent years making problems disappear, and Joey may have spent years helping him do it.
But Randy could become the one problem Joey can no longer control.
