But Dani’s immediate panic afterward makes the moment far more suspicious. What if she did not simply misspeak? What if Dani suddenly realized that, legally, Bill may still be her husband?
That possibility turns one awkward sentence into a potentially explosive legal bombshell. Dani has every reason to believe that her marriage to Bill ended long ago. But this theory suggests she may have recently discovered something buried in their divorce records. Perhaps the paperwork was never properly completed, a required filing was missing, or some technical mistake prevented the divorce from becoming legally effective. If that happened, Dani and Bill could have remained legally married without either of them openly acknowledging it.
That would explain why the word “husband” could have slipped out so naturally. Dani may not have been thinking about her old relationship at all.
