Nick Newman may have just made the most revealing choice of his entire downward spiral. After Marie is rushed away in an ambulance, Nick returns to the motel completely shattered. He lies down, breaks down, and finally admits that he is not okay. But the biggest shock is not that Nick reaches his breaking point. It is who he calls when he has nowhere left to turn: Sharon. In the darkest moment of his life, Nick does not reach for Victor, Nikki, Victoria, or even Jack. He calls Sharon and begs her to come get him. The writers would not need to immediately turn Sharon and Nick into a romantic couple. In fact, doing that too quickly would weaken the story. A far more powerful direction would be to let Sharon become part of Nick’s recovery journey, allowing trust and emotional intimacy to rebuild naturally.
Sharon arriving at the motel could become a major turning point. She would not be seeing the powerful businessman or the confident Newman heir. She would be seeing Nick at his absolute worst. He is crying, frightened, desperate, and finally honest about needing help. If Sharon stays instead of walking away, their relationship could begin changing in a way neither of them expects. Recovery would give them time together, and time together could force both characters to confront feelings they believed were already gone.
There is also a major twist hiding inside Marie’s role in this story. Marie may appear to be the woman whose presence changes Nick’s romantic direction, but her near-death crisis could ultimately serve the opposite purpose. She could become the catalyst that sends Nick back toward Sharon. Her emergency forces Nick to see exactly where his choices are taking him, and that realization pushes him toward the one person he trusts enough to call when everything collapses.
The most explosive possibility comes later, when Nick is finally sober and emotionally stable enough to explain why he made that call. Imagine him telling Sharon that he could have called anyone that night. He could have called his family. He could have called Jack. But when he was lying alone in that motel room, Sharon was the only voice he wanted to hear. That confession would completely change the meaning of the phone call.
Suddenly, the call would no longer look like nothing more than an act of desperation. It could become evidence that Nick’s emotional connection with Sharon never truly disappeared. He may have spent years moving forward, but when everything else was stripped away, his instincts took him back to her.
That is why this moment could be the beginning of something much bigger. The Shick reunion does not have to begin with a kiss, a declaration, or a sudden romance. It could begin with one broken phone call. Nick hits rock bottom, asks Sharon for help, and unknowingly opens a door that may have never been completely closed. The real question is no longer whether Nick can recover. It is whether, on the way back up, he discovers that Sharon is still the person his heart chooses when everything else falls apart.
