SAM BACK FROM THE DEAD? THE SCOUT CRISIS JUST GAVE GH THE PERFECT WAY TO BRING KELLY MONACO HOME

Sam McCall may be dead in Port Charles, but General Hospital has suddenly created one of the strongest reasons yet to bring her back. With Scout and Danny caught in increasingly complicated family drama and Drew becoming a source of conflict instead of stability, Sam’s absence is becoming impossible to ignore. Fans have wanted Kelly Monaco back for a long time, but now there is something they did not have before: a storyline practically begging for Sam McCall to walk through the door.

To be absolutely clear, Kelly Monaco has NOT been confirmed to be returning to General Hospital. Monaco exited the ABC soap in 2024, and Sam’s death remains part of the show’s current canon. Monaco resurfacing publicly on Instagram in May 2026 created excitement among longtime fans, but that was not an announcement of a GH comeback. Right now, a Sam resurrection remains fan demand and speculation — not confirmed casting news.

But that distinction has not stopped fans from asking the obvious question: Why not bring Sam back now?

The difference is Scout. Sam returning would no longer need to be nothing more than nostalgia or an excuse to revisit her history with Jason Morgan. Scout gives a potential comeback immediate emotional stakes. Sam was fiercely protective of her children, and the idea that Scout could be navigating major upheaval without her mother has made Sam’s absence feel even bigger.

If Sam could see what was happening to her daughter, would she really stay gone?

Then there is Danny. Bringing Sam back would instantly reconnect one of GH’s most complicated families without requiring months of setup. Sam, Danny, Scout, Jason and Drew already share decades of history, love, betrayal and unresolved emotions. The writers would not need to manufacture conflict. It is already sitting there waiting for Sam.

And Drew could provide the explosion.

A resurrected Sam would not necessarily return to Port Charles ready for a tearful family reunion. Imagine Sam discovering everything that has happened while she was gone and then turning her attention toward Drew. Fans who are frustrated with Drew would suddenly have the character with perhaps the strongest emotional standing to challenge him.

What would Sam McCall say to Drew if she walked into the room tomorrow?

That confrontation alone could justify weeks of television.

Of course, GH would first have to solve one enormous problem: Sam is dead.

Fortunately for anyone hoping for a resurrection, this is a soap opera. Death has rarely been an irreversible obstacle in Port Charles. GH could reveal that Sam never truly died, that crucial medical information was manipulated, or that what viewers believed happened was only part of the story.

Another possibility would be even more explosive: someone saved Sam and deliberately kept her hidden.

That scenario would create an entirely new mystery. Who saved her? Why was she prevented from returning? Who benefited from Danny and Scout believing their mother was dead? Instead of simply reversing Sam’s death, GH could turn her survival into a conspiracy capable of driving months of storyline.

A third possibility would be bringing Sam home alive but changed. Memory loss, captivity or manipulated memories could explain why she never contacted her children. Her first appearance would then become the beginning of the mystery rather than its conclusion.

There is also a much wilder theory floating around the family storyline: What if a DNA bombshell somehow revealed Jason as Scout’s biological father?

It would certainly detonate the Jason-Sam-Drew dynamic, but there is a major problem. Established chronology makes that theory extremely difficult. Scout was conceived during the period when Drew was living as Jason, while the real Jason was believed gone and was being held in Russia. Making Jason Scout’s father would therefore require GH to reveal a massive missing piece of history or rewrite established continuity.

That does not mean DNA cannot become part of a future storyline. It simply means fans should separate an entertaining theory from what the show has actually established.

And that same rule applies to Kelly Monaco.

There is no confirmed Kelly Monaco return right now. But GH may have accidentally created something almost as powerful as a casting announcement: a moment when bringing Sam back would immediately matter.

Scout needs her mother. Danny lost his. Jason remains deeply connected to the family. Drew provides instant conflict. And a passionate section of the audience never stopped asking for Sam McCall.

All the pieces are sitting on the board.

Only Sam is missing.

If GH ever decides to reverse Sam McCall’s death, the writers may never get a cleaner opening than the one they have right now.

Would you bring Sam back from the dead — and if Kelly Monaco returned tomorrow, who should Sam confront first: Drew or Jason?
