Ric Lansing walked toward Elizabeth Baldwin’s house with roses, an engagement ring, and every intention of securing their future together. But General Hospital may have been telling a completely different story on August 19. That ring might not be leading Ric and Elizabeth toward a wedding at all. It could be the final device that tears them apart—and sends Ric straight back toward Alexis Davis. The wildest part is that GH has been quietly planting that reunion for months, and Molly may have noticed what was happening before either of her parents did.
The biggest clue came before Ric even reached Elizabeth’s door. When Ric showed Sonny the ring, Sonny immediately questioned why his brother was rushing toward marriage when Ric and Elizabeth had not seriously discussed taking that step. Ric’s answer exposed everything: he did not want to lose Elizabeth to another man. Sonny recognized the insecurity behind the decision almost immediately. That exchange matters because GH deliberately told viewers that Ric’s proposal was being driven at least partly by fear before Elizabeth ever had the chance to see the ring.
Then the writers turned Ric’s worst fear into the next scene. He arrived at Elizabeth’s home, looked through the window and found Dante on her sofa without his pants while Elizabeth tended to his injured knee. There was an innocent explanation, but that hardly mattered to Ric. He had just admitted he feared another man taking Elizabeth away, and suddenly Dante was sitting half-dressed beside her. GH could not have designed a more explosive trigger for Ric’s jealousy. The proposal suddenly looked less like the beginning of a marriage and more like the beginning of the end.
If Elizabeth ultimately rejects Ric’s proposal, the groundwork is already there. Her connection with Dante has continued to deepen while Ric has become increasingly threatened by it. A rejection would force Ric to confront an uncomfortable truth: he tried to secure Elizabeth because he was afraid of losing her, not because they had mutually reached the point where marriage was the obvious next step. But that does not necessarily mean GH intends to send Ric permanently back to his darkest behavior. The writers have already been building another road for him—and it leads directly to Alexis.
The Ric-Alexis clues did not begin this week. Months before Ric pulled out that engagement ring, GH had already started putting the former spouses back into each other’s orbit through Molly. Instead of treating each other purely as bitter exes, Ric and Alexis began showing that familiar rhythm that once made them such a complicated pairing. They could cooperate, argue, tease each other and still come together when Molly needed them. Most importantly, the show made sure somebody noticed the shift.
That somebody was Molly. When she watched her parents working together, Molly was visibly struck by how well Ric and Alexis were getting along. That is an important storytelling choice. GH did not need Molly to notice anything if those scenes were simply about two divorced parents peacefully supporting their daughter. By allowing Molly to recognize that something between them felt different, the writers quietly invited viewers to start looking at Ric and Alexis differently too. Molly may have been the first person to see the reunion being planted right in front of everyone.
Then GH pushed the idea even further. When Ric and Alexis came together again around Molly’s book-launch celebration, their old banter returned so naturally that Cody eventually wondered whether Molly’s parents might actually be rekindling something. That is where the setup becomes especially difficult to dismiss. First Molly notices that Ric and Alexis are surprisingly good together. Then another character openly raises the possibility that the exes could be reconnecting romantically. The writers were no longer merely putting Ric and Alexis in the same room—they were making other characters question what those interactions meant.
Molly is also the perfect bridge if GH wants to make a Ric-Alexis reunion believable. She permanently connects them, giving the writers endless organic reasons to place them together without forcing a sudden romance. Supporting Molly can become teamwork. Teamwork can restore their old banter. Familiarity can become vulnerability, and vulnerability can awaken feelings neither expected to revisit. Instead of Ric running straight to Alexis because Elizabeth rejects him, GH can build a much stronger story in which Ric slowly realizes that the woman who understands every complicated side of him has already returned to his life.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth is being pulled in the opposite direction. As Ric reconnects with Alexis through Molly, Elizabeth has developed an increasingly important bond with Dante. That creates an intriguing parallel: Elizabeth moves closer to Dante while Ric repeatedly finds himself beside Alexis. Nobody needs to cheat. Nobody even needs to recognize what is happening immediately. GH can simply keep separating Ric and Elizabeth emotionally until the August 19 proposal forces the truth into the open.
That is why the engagement ring may ultimately be a giant red herring. Ric believes it will prevent him from losing Elizabeth, but Sonny already identified the fear behind it. Dante then appeared as the physical embodiment of that fear before Ric could even propose. And all the while, GH has spent months rebuilding Ric’s connection with another woman. Molly noticed first. Cody practically said the quiet part out loud. Now Elizabeth’s rejection could provide the final push.
Ric thought August 19 was about choosing Elizabeth forever. But GH may have secretly written something much bigger into that proposal: the moment Elizabeth begins moving toward Dante—and Ric finally starts finding his way back to Alexis.
