With Smitty set to unintentionally increase the anxiety surrounding Chelsea and Kat, there is a chilling possibility hiding in the upcoming story: Smitty could be the person who uncovers the first real clue that Allison is closer than anyone realizes.
The timing makes that possibility difficult to ignore. Chelsea’s fear exploded after she received repeated calls from an unknown number. The caller said nothing, but when Kat answered, she could hear someone breathing before the line suddenly went dead. For Chelsea, there was only one person who immediately came to mind: Allison. The calls arrived on the anniversary of Chelsea’s kidnapping, after she had already awakened from a nightmare about what happened to her one year earlier.
That alone could have been dismissed as Chelsea’s trauma resurfacing, but the story is clearly continuing. Upcoming developments keep Chelsea’s fears alive instead of resolving them quickly. That distinction matters. If the calls were simply an emotional device to revisit Chelsea’s past, the writers would not need to keep expanding the mystery around them. Instead, Kat becomes increasingly involved, and Chelsea’s fear begins spreading to the people around her.
This is where Smitty becomes extremely interesting. Upcoming spoilers indicate that Smitty will unintentionally cause more anxiety for Chelsea and Kat. That wording raises a major question: what could Smitty possibly discover or reveal that would frighten both women at exactly the moment Allison’s shadow has returned?
Smitty is also uniquely positioned to stumble onto information other characters might miss. He has an investigative background and has already been involved in stories requiring him to follow leads and dig beneath the surface. Recent episodes have continued to position him around investigative material, including his work connected to the Red Market story. That makes him a believable character to notice something that Chelsea and Kat cannot see themselves.
Imagine Smitty examining the mysterious calls and discovering that they are not random at all. Perhaps the numbers were disguised. Perhaps the calls originated near Fairmont Crest. Or perhaps he uncovers evidence connecting them to someone from Chelsea’s kidnapping ordeal. None of those possibilities has been confirmed, but any one of them could explain why something Smitty learns would immediately send Chelsea and Kat into another panic.
There is an even darker possibility. What if Smitty discovers evidence suggesting Allison escaped before Chelsea ever received the first call? Chelsea currently fears Allison because of instinct and trauma, not because she has proof. A concrete clue would completely change the storyline. Suddenly Chelsea would not be imagining danger. Someone connected to one of the worst moments of her life could actually be moving freely again.
Yet Beyond the Gates could still have another twist waiting. Smitty’s clue might prove that Allison isn’t the caller.
That would arguably make the mystery even more disturbing. Someone could be deliberately recreating Allison’s behavior because they know exactly what will terrify Chelsea. The anniversary timing would then become especially important. Whoever is making those calls would need knowledge of Chelsea’s past and enough information to understand precisely which wound to reopen.
There is already history connecting Allison to a wider network of characters. That past gives the writers several ways to expand the current mystery beyond a straightforward Allison comeback.
And Smitty may only be the beginning.

If these events are connected, the progression could be significant: Chelsea receives the calls, Kat begins taking the threat seriously, Smitty uncovers something that frightens them both, and investigators eventually receive information that turns fear into a genuine emergency.
That is exactly the kind of escalation this story needs.
Fans have waited to see whether Allison would ever cast her shadow over Chelsea again. The mysterious breathing calls have opened that door, but simply revealing Allison on the other end would almost be too easy. Giving Smitty the clue that changes everything could transform a trauma callback into a full mystery.
Chelsea already believes Allison is back.
Now Smitty could be the one who discovers whether she is terrifyingly right — or whether someone even more unexpected has been hiding behind those calls.
