Allison’s obsession with Chelsea may have started long before the two women ever met — and a buried family connection could be the secret that blows the Duprees apart. Beyond the Gates has suddenly dragged Allison back into Chelsea’s life through terrifying anonymous calls, but the biggest mystery may no longer be whether Allison has returned. It is why she chose Chelsea in the first place.
Chelsea’s fear is very real. On the anniversary of her kidnapping, she woke from a nightmare about Allison before receiving calls from an unknown number. The first caller remained silent. When the phone rang again, Kat answered and heard someone breathing before the line went dead. Chelsea immediately became convinced Allison was responsible.
But Allison’s history with Chelsea has always contained one enormous unanswered question: Why Chelsea?
During the original kidnapping storyline, Allison admitted that she had followed Chelsea online for a long time and studied her obsessively. She knew Chelsea’s favorite foods, preferences and personal habits. She even engineered their first encounter rather than leaving it to chance. Allison’s fixation was presented as the obsession of a fan who had convinced herself that Chelsea’s social-media activity carried personal meaning for her.
That explanation works — but Beyond the Gates could be leaving room for something much bigger.
What if Allison did not originally become interested in Chelsea because of social media? What if Chelsea’s name already meant something to Allison because of a secret buried inside Allison’s own family?
Very little of Allison’s family history has been explored onscreen compared with the enormous amount viewers know about the Duprees. That blank space creates an intriguing possibility. Allison’s fixation could eventually be traced back through an older relative and into the Dupree family’s past. It would not necessarily mean Allison and Chelsea are sisters. The connection could stretch back another generation, where an affair, hidden child, adoption or concealed relationship was erased from the family history.
The strongest version of this twist would involve Allison discovering the connection before Chelsea did.
Imagine Allison going through belongings left behind by an older relative and discovering an old photograph, letter, birth record or family document carrying a Dupree name. At first, Chelsea could simply have been a person Allison wanted to investigate. Then Allison found Chelsea online, began watching her life and slowly transformed a family mystery into a personal obsession.
Suddenly, Allison’s behavior would look very different.
Her intense research into Chelsea would no longer begin with attraction. It would begin with a question about Chelsea’s family. Somewhere along the way, Allison could have crossed the line from investigating Chelsea to believing they shared a bond nobody else understood.
That kind of reveal would fit a show that has already demonstrated how aggressively it can weaponize buried family history. One of Beyond the Gates’ biggest twists revealed that Leslie was Barbara Mitchell’s daughter, connecting a present-day enemy directly to a secret rooted in the previous generation. Creator Michele Val Jean confirmed that major reveal had been planned from the beginning.
Allison could provide another opportunity to turn yesterday’s secret into today’s disaster.
The most explosive possibility is that Allison’s family intersects directly with the Dupree bloodline. An unknown branch of the family, an unacknowledged child from decades earlier or a relationship the Duprees believed was permanently buried could give Allison information that even Chelsea does not possess.
And that raises an even bigger question: What if Allison knows something about Chelsea’s DNA that Chelsea herself has never discovered?
Chelsea is established as Dani Dupree and Bill Hamilton’s youngest daughter, while Naomi is her older sister. There is currently no confirmed evidence overturning Chelsea’s parentage, so a secret-paternity reveal remains pure speculation. A smarter twist would be for Allison to possess information about another hidden branch of Chelsea’s family rather than simply rewriting who Chelsea’s parents are.
That would also give the current mysterious calls a new purpose.
If Allison is behind them, perhaps she is not simply trying to frighten Chelsea again. Perhaps she wants Chelsea to remember her because she intends to finish telling her something she never revealed during the kidnapping. The caller’s silence could be the opening move before a photograph, document or name from the past finally arrives.
And if Allison is not the caller, the mystery becomes even more dangerous. Someone else could have discovered the same buried connection and realized that invoking Allison is the easiest way to destabilize Chelsea before the truth comes out.
For now, only one thing is certain: Chelsea’s Allison nightmare has been reopened. The anniversary, the silent calls and the breathing on the other end have dragged Chelsea straight back into the trauma she thought she survived.
But the ultimate bombshell would be bigger than Allison simply returning.
What if Allison never randomly chose Chelsea at all? What if someone in Allison’s family knew the Duprees long before Chelsea was born — and the proof has been sitting inside Allison’s past this entire time?
