That means the fight cannot stop with proving the document is authentic. Someone eventually has to establish exactly who qualifies as John Abbott’s heir. The deeper Billy digs into John’s estate and family records, the greater the chance that something buried in those files comes back with it.
That is where Jill’s 1984 pregnancy becomes impossible to ignore. During one of the messiest periods in Abbott family history, Jill became pregnant while her relationships with both John and Jack had created a devastating paternity question. The pregnancy ended in what Jill believed was a miscarriage, and the identity of the baby’s father was never definitively established. It could have been John. It could have been Jack. For decades, there was no reason for Y&R to answer the question because the child was gone.
But what if that assumption is exactly what Billy’s investigation overturns?
The perfect clue would not require an unbelievable confession or a stranger suddenly arriving in Genoa City claiming to be an Abbott. Billy could simply find one inconsistency while tracing John’s heirs: the medical record documenting Jill’s pregnancy is there, but the final record proving the child’s death is missing. A DNA test would become inevitable, and the result could completely change the meaning of Billy’s Chancellor investigation. He began this fight looking for proof that John left something behind for his heirs. Instead, he could discover that John potentially left behind an heir nobody knew existed.
The timing makes the idea especially explosive because Billy is already forcing the Abbott family to examine John’s history through a legal lens. Old agreements, inheritance language and forgotten records are suddenly relevant again. That provides exactly the kind of opening a soap needs to resurrect a decades-old unresolved paternity question without making it feel completely disconnected from the current story.
Billy thinks John Abbott’s past is about to hand him Chancellor. He should be careful what else he uncovers.
Because the biggest secret buried in John’s files may not be who owns a company.
