SPOILER ALERT: General Hospital may have just buried the biggest clue to Jack Brennan’s death inside Chris McKenna’s own farewell. Everyone is looking at Ava, Drew, and the chaos surrounding Brennan’s body, but McKenna’s comments about his final scenes suddenly make one thing impossible to ignore: what happened before Brennan landed in that pool may be far more complicated than GH wants viewers to believe.
McKenna confirmed that his departure had been planned well in advance, with his final material filmed months before Brennan’s death aired. He also admitted that the ending was not the dramatic heroic sendoff he once imagined for Brennan. Instead of a grand final speech or a spectacular sacrifice, McKenna spent his final stretch playing Brennan’s lifeless body as the characters around him scrambled to deal with the aftermath.
That detail matters because the show never actually gave viewers the clean answer they expected. Ava drugged Brennan as part of Drew’s plan, but drugging Brennan and causing his death are not automatically the same thing. There is a crucial missing window between Brennan being alive and Danny and Charlotte discovering him already dead in the Metro Court pool.
Drew and Ava arrived later. By then, Brennan was gone. Their terrible decision was not reporting what they found. They pulled Brennan from the water, concealed his body inside a laundry cart, covered him with towels, and planned to move him through the service elevator. That makes them responsible for an enormous cover-up, but the cover-up itself does not answer the central question: who actually put Brennan in that pool?
Then comes the clue that changes everything.
The Metro Court security system did not simply malfunction on the night Brennan died. It was deliberately disabled. Carly discovered that the alarms were down, and Jason determined that a sophisticated virus had been installed through Carly’s office computer. Someone had created a perfect window in which movements through the hotel could disappear from surveillance.
Drew had an obvious reason for wanting security compromised: Brennan possessed evidence against him, and Drew desperately wanted to find it. But that creates another terrifying possibility. What if someone else realized the cameras were down and used Drew’s own operation as cover?
Jason discovered another problem when he and Carly entered Brennan’s room. It had clearly been searched. Brennan was not simply another Metro Court guest. He was the head of the WSB, a man who collected secrets and possessed information capable of destroying lives. On the very night he died, security vanished, his room was searched, and evidence people desperately wanted suddenly became part of the mystery.
That is why Ava feels increasingly like the perfect distraction.
She had access to Brennan. She drugged him. Dante had seen her with him. Drew was involved in the scheme. Nina had also publicly threatened Brennan. Charlotte accidentally left behind an even more damaging clue when her missing bracelet ended up caught on Brennan’s sleeve. Nearly every obvious suspect has been handed something that makes them look guilty.
But one person had an especially powerful reason to fear what Brennan knew: Willow.
Brennan possessed information capable of exposing Willow’s darkest secrets, including the truth surrounding what happened to Drew. As long as Brennan remained alive, that information remained dangerous. His death did not simply remove a powerful WSB figure from Port Charles — it potentially removed a man who could destroy Willow’s future.
That does not prove Willow caused Brennan’s death. But it makes her impossible to dismiss, especially because the story is surrounding Ava, Drew, Nina, Danny, and Charlotte with so much obvious suspicion. In a murder mystery, the person receiving the least attention can sometimes be the person viewers should be watching most closely.
And McKenna’s farewell makes that structure even more suspicious. Brennan did not receive the heroic ending the actor once envisioned. Instead, his death became the beginning of something larger: a hacked security system, a searched hotel room, missing evidence, multiple suspects, a contaminated scene, a hidden body, and a bracelet capable of pointing investigators in the wrong direction.
That is not a clean exit. That is the foundation of a mystery.
The biggest question now is not whether Ava and Drew will be caught moving Brennan’s body. They almost certainly created enough problems to keep investigators busy for weeks. The real question is what an autopsy will reveal about Brennan’s final moments — and whether Ava’s drug was actually responsible for his death at all.
Because if it wasn’t, everything changes.
Ava becomes the woman who unknowingly helped create the perfect cover story. Drew becomes the man whose security blackout gave someone else an opportunity. Charlotte’s bracelet becomes a devastating false trail. And Brennan’s missing evidence becomes the possible motive connecting the entire mystery.
Chris McKenna’s goodbye did not explicitly name Brennan’s killer. But when his comments are placed beside what GH deliberately showed on screen, they highlight the gap the story has carefully avoided filling.
Someone had access. Someone had a reason to silence Brennan. And while Port Charles is staring at Ava and Drew, the person with the most to lose could already be hiding in plain sight.
