That final question could frighten Scout most of all.
Alexis would now face an impossible choice. She has potentially been handed the first thread capable of unraveling Drew’s secret, but the source is her own granddaughter. Exposing what Scout heard too quickly could tell Drew exactly who betrayed him. Alexis’ first priority may therefore become protecting Scout while quietly figuring out how to use the information without exposing her.
The most chilling moment could come when Alexis gives Scout one instruction: “Do not tell your father you told me.”
That is when Scout realizes this is no longer another family argument.
Drew has spent so much time fearing that Danny, Rocco, Alexis, or someone else would turn Scout against him. Yet none of them may have to do it. Drew could accomplish that all by himself with one fatal slip.
