Phyllis Summers may believe she has finally found the perfect way to help Matt Clark repair his reputation, but her dangerous plan involving Sharon Newman could cost her something far more devastating than another enemy. Phyllis may think she can control every detail, but Matt himself has already shown hesitation about using Sharon this way. If one part of the plan goes wrong, Sharon could face genuine danger before anyone realizes the staged rescue has spiraled out of control.
That is where Daniel could unexpectedly enter the story. He does not need to uncover every detail of Phyllis’ scheme at once. He could overhear a suspicious conversation between Phyllis and Matt, notice preparations for the staged incident, or simply hear enough to realize that Sharon is about to be manipulated without her knowledge. One careless sentence from Phyllis could be enough to expose everything.
Daniel confronting his mother would make the situation even more explosive. Phyllis would almost certainly defend herself by insisting that Sharon was never supposed to be hurt. But that defense could have exactly the opposite effect on Daniel. If Phyllis needs to promise that Sharon “won’t really be in danger,” then Daniel may realize his mother has already crossed a line that cannot be ignored.
And Daniel now has the perfect person to warn: Mariah.
Daniel and Mariah recently cleared the air in an unexpectedly emotional conversation. Instead of remaining divided by the painful history surrounding Heather Stevens and Sharon, they found common ground. Daniel acknowledged the importance Tessa Porter once had in helping him through his grief, while Mariah showed him compassion rather than hostility. Their conversation ended with a hug — a seemingly quiet moment that could suddenly become extremely important.
What if that reconciliation was not random?
The show may have just reopened the Daniel-Mariah connection because Daniel is about to learn something Mariah desperately needs to know. Rather than going directly to Sharon, Nick Newman, or Victor Newman, Daniel could choose Mariah because he trusts her to protect her mother without immediately turning the situation into an all-out Newman war.
That decision would carry enormous emotional weight because of Daniel’s history with Sharon. Heather’s death shattered his life, and Sharon became deeply connected to one of the darkest periods Daniel and his family ever endured. Daniel does not need to forget that history or suddenly become Sharon’s biggest defender. He only needs to recognize that allowing his own mother to manipulate Sharon would make him complicit in something dangerously wrong.
But protecting Sharon would mean betraying Phyllis.
That is what could make this storyline brutal. Phyllis is accustomed to Genoa City judging her. She has survived battles with Sharon, Christine, Diane, Victor, and countless others. What she may not be prepared to survive is Daniel looking her in the eyes and deciding that protecting someone else matters more than protecting his mother’s secret.
Mariah could then become the person who destroys the entire operation. Armed with Daniel’s warning, she could quietly watch Sharon, track Phyllis and Matt’s movements, and intervene before the staged emergency happens. Even better, Mariah might allow Phyllis to believe everything is going according to plan before turning the trap back on her.
There is another potential casualty Phyllis may not be considering: Matt himself. He has been trying to convince people that he has changed, but participating in a manufactured rescue could destroy whatever progress he has made. If Daniel exposes the scheme, he may inadvertently save Matt from making a mistake that would permanently confirm everyone’s worst suspicions about him.
And Matt could eventually realize exactly who dragged him back toward disaster.
That would leave Phyllis isolated from both sides. Sharon would know she used her as a pawn. Matt could blame her for sabotaging his redemption. Mariah would know exactly how far Phyllis was willing to go. But none of those reactions would hurt Phyllis as much as discovering who handed Mariah the truth.

Phyllis may believe her son will ultimately protect her because she is his mother. This time, she could be disastrously wrong.
