Leslie suddenly has leverage because her status as Barbara’s daughter gives her a powerful position in discussions over that material. Instead of simply granting permission, Leslie has pushed for access to the recording process and a producer credit.
She may think she is taking control of Barbara’s legacy.
She could actually be reopening Barbara’s entire estate.
Using old recordings can force people to revisit paperwork that has been untouched for years. Rights, permissions, contracts and beneficiary records suddenly matter again. One document buried in Barbara’s history could contain a name nobody recognizes. One old birth record could create questions Leslie cannot answer. Peaches may never have lied when she said Leslie was Barbara’s daughter. Her deception could be much more precise. She simply never told Leslie that Barbara had another child.
That would explain why Peaches remains such a potentially dangerous piece of Leslie’s history. She possesses memories that cannot be found in a DNA report. If Barbara asked her to protect two different children in two different ways, Peaches could have spent decades keeping those worlds apart.
Until Leslie forced them together.
The Articulettes album would be the perfect trigger. What begins as a fight over Barbara’s vocals could become a fight over Barbara herself. Anita might initially believe Leslie’s demands are the biggest threat to the comeback, only to discover that Leslie accidentally exposed something much larger.
And the cruelest part would be Leslie causing her own downfall.
She wanted producer power because she believed it would move her closer to Barbara’s legacy. Instead, entering that recording room could lead directly to the document, recording or legal review that reveals Barbara’s second child.
Suddenly, Leslie would have a sibling.
The Articulettes would have another heir to deal with.
