Jack Abbott may have just opened a door Diane desperately wanted closed. Nikki Newman taking control of Vibrante was already dangerous enough for Jabot, but Jack’s reaction changed the entire meaning of this new rivalry. Instead of treating Nikki like a serious competitor, Jack welcomed her back into the cosmetics world, defended her when Diane pushed back, and then made the move that could come back to haunt his marriage: he offered to personally help Nikki navigate the modern beauty business.
That offer sounds harmless until you consider what it actually creates. Nikki now has a perfectly legitimate reason to spend more time with Jack. Their conversations no longer have to begin with Victor, a family crisis, or Nikki needing emotional support. They can meet over strategy, branding, competition, and the future of Vibrante. What begins as professional advice could quickly recreate the emotional closeness between Jack and Nikki that has repeatedly made Diane uncomfortable.
Diane’s reaction may already be telling us that she sees the danger. She challenged the idea that Nikki could truly keep Victor under control, questioned Jack’s confidence in Nikki, and looked stunned when Jack volunteered to give Nikki advice. On the surface, Diane is worried about Newman Enterprises backing a direct Jabot competitor. But underneath that business concern is a far more personal question: why is her husband so eager to help the woman running the company that could eventually hurt his own?
Jack appears convinced that Vibrante is too small to threaten Jabot. That confidence could become his biggest mistake. Nikki may have experience in the industry, but she is returning to a beauty market that has changed. Jack practically acknowledged that himself when he suggested he could bring her up to speed. If Nikki actually takes his advice and Vibrante begins gaining ground, Diane could eventually realize that Jack helped create the very competitor he told her not to fear.
And that would make the conflict explosive. Imagine Vibrante suddenly landing a major campaign, attracting customers away from Jabot, or benefiting from a strategy that sounds suspiciously like something Jack would recommend. Diane would not simply be angry at Nikki. She would have every reason to turn on Jack. He would have crossed a line between friendship and business without recognizing how dangerous that line had become.
Victor could make everything even worse. Nikki accepted the Vibrante position partly because she believes she can stop Victor from turning the company into another weapon against the Abbotts. But Victor Newman rarely remains on the sidelines when Jabot is involved. If he starts interfering and Nikki pushes back, who is the person most likely to understand exactly why she is furious? Jack. Suddenly those innocent business conversations could become private conversations about Victor, Nikki’s marriage, and all the history Jack and Nikki already share.
That is where Diane’s real nightmare could begin. Vibrante would give Nikki something she never had before: constant access to Jack with a completely reasonable explanation attached. Diane could complain, but Jack could insist there is nothing romantic happening. Nikki could say they are only discussing business. Both could technically be telling the truth while still becoming emotionally closer with every meeting. In classic soap fashion, the danger would not need to begin with an affair. It could begin with trust.
There is another layer making this storyline even more dangerous. Victoria and Kyle are already being pulled toward each other while their families stand on opposite sides of this corporate divide. That means Vibrante could become the center of two increasingly personal Abbott-Newman connections at once: Nikki and Jack at the top, Victoria and Kyle underneath them. One company could quietly turn a cosmetic rivalry into another full-scale family war.
And Diane may be the first person who realizes it.
She warned Jack that Vibrante has the power of Newman Enterprises behind it. She warned that Victor would not simply accept being sidelined. Jack dismissed much of that danger because he trusts Nikki. But that trust itself may be exactly what Diane fears most. Jack does not see Nikki as Victor Newman’s wife or the CEO of a competing company first. He sees an old friend he believes he understands and can help.
That distinction could cost him.
The biggest question now is not whether Nikki can make Vibrante successful. It is what happens if Jack becomes part of the reason she succeeds. If private advice becomes regular meetings, regular meetings become emotional support, and Victor’s interference pushes Nikki even closer to Jack, Diane could find herself watching an old bond become dangerously important again.
