Randy may be about to discover the brutal rule of doing business with Hayley Hamilton: when her survival is threatened, everyone else becomes expendable. Beyond the Gates has already established a poison trail connecting Randy to Hayley’s scheme against Bill, and with Hayley cornered, Randy could become the easiest person for her to sacrifice.
The evidence surrounding Bill’s poisoning has become increasingly dangerous for Hayley.
But it is dangerous for Randy too.
Randy supplied the poison Hayley used, creating a direct link between him and the crime. More importantly, Randy knows Hayley could turn on him if she decides shifting responsibility is her best chance of survival.
That possibility becomes much more important now that Hayley has been exposed.
She needs another strategy.
The upcoming spoilers promise that Hayley has another trick up her sleeve, and while that trick could involve leverage over Bill, Randy represents a second potential escape route.
Hayley could give investigators someone else to chase.
She would not necessarily have to convince them that Randy acted completely alone. Creating doubt about who planned what, who understood the intended use of the poison and who actually controlled the scheme could complicate the case.
And Randy has a serious problem.
His fingerprints are already figuratively all over the supply chain.
Hayley knows exactly what he provided. She knows when. She knows what conversations took place between them.
If their stories suddenly conflict, Randy may find himself defending his own role while Hayley aggressively minimizes hers.
That would be classic Hayley.
When she had Bill, she protected herself through her marriage. When she needed poison, she used Randy. Now that the scheme has collapsed, Randy could discover he was never a partner.
He was always a disposable layer between Hayley and the crime.
This also creates an interesting contrast with Chelsea’s confrontation with Hayley.
Chelsea is furious because she sees Hayley as the person responsible for what happened to Bill. Hayley, however, may begin constructing a very different narrative — one designed to muddy responsibility and create enough uncertainty to keep herself fighting.
Randy could become central to that narrative.
There is also Leslie.
The decision to have Leslie unexpectedly move closer to Hayley after the arrest should not be ignored. Leslie ingratiating herself with Hayley suggests Hayley will not spend the aftermath isolated.
If Hayley gains an ally while Randy becomes increasingly nervous, the balance between them could change very quickly.
Then there is Bill’s shocking decision.
If Hayley simultaneously pressures Bill and redirects attention toward Randy, she could attack her legal problem from two directions.
Bill becomes the person she pressures into silence. Randy becomes the person she offers up.
That would be a ruthless but logical survival strategy.
The most compelling part is that Randy should understand exactly what is coming.
He knows Hayley. He knows what she is capable of. And unlike Bill, Randy cannot claim he never saw the dangerous side of her.
He participated in the chain that gave Hayley access to the poison.
Now he has to live with the possibility that the same woman he helped could make him carry the worst consequences.
Hayley’s next betrayal therefore may not target Bill at all.
Bill already knows she tried to destroy him.
Randy is the person who still has something Hayley desperately needs: blame she can redirect away from herself.
If Hayley decides only one of them can survive the poison investigation, Randy may finally learn why helping her was the most dangerous deal he ever made.
