A plane crash would immediately explain why Port Charles is suddenly preparing for Robert’s return without requiring the legendary character to actually appear onscreen. Instead of replacing Robert, GH could let decades of memories tell the story — the spy, the commissioner, the father, the friend and the man who became one of Port Charles’ most enduring legends.
That is why Robert’s announced return suddenly feels so much bigger than a simple visit.
