The timing could hardly be more dangerous for Willow. Scout could become caught in another painful family war. After losing his career, relationship, and reason to remain in Port Charles, Drew could decide there is simply nothing left for him there.
Washington could offer one possibility. Leaving town to rebuild his career and life somewhere else could offer another. Either choice would keep Drew alive while leaving the door open for Cameron Mathison to return someday.
That possibility is especially interesting because speculation about Mathison’s GH future has circulated online before. Earlier exit rumors were not confirmed at the time, and there is currently no public confirmation that Cameron Mathison is leaving General Hospital. The important question now is whether Drew’s increasingly destructive storyline could reignite that speculation and eventually provide the character with a believable path off the canvas.
If GH does eventually move Drew out of Port Charles, however, simply having him disappear would waste months of buildup. The shooting, drugging, physical trauma, lake incident, Willow secrets, and Michael conflict need a payoff. Drew exposing everything before leaving would provide exactly that.
Imagine the final sequence: Michael exposes Willow’s shooting secret. Drew realizes Michael knows the truth. Drew finally turns against Willow and Nina. His marriage collapses. Then, just when Willow believes the nightmare cannot become worse, Drew reveals the last piece of evidence she never knew existed.
He gives Michael the weapon Willow feared most.
And then Drew Cain walks away from Port Charles.
If Cameron Mathison’s final GH chapter really is approaching someday, Drew leaving as a defeated victim would be forgettable. Drew leaving after detonating Willow’s entire world would be anything but.
