HOLDEN CHOOSES LILY — AND THE DNA BOMBSHELL THAT MADE THEM FAMILY JUST CAME FULL CIRCLE

Holden Novak just made his choice in the Chancellor war, and it carries far more weight than an ordinary business decision. Billy Abbott offered him an opportunity that could accelerate his career, but Holden ultimately stood beside Lily Winters instead. The shocking part is why that choice matters so much: only months ago, Holden did not even know Lily was his sister. Now the DNA bombshell that rewrote both of their lives has become the reason Billy could lose a powerful ally.

The family connection began with one of Y&R’s biggest reveals of 2026. Stephanie revealed that Malcolm Winters was Holden’s biological father, instantly changing Holden’s place in Genoa City. That discovery also gave Holden a sister he never knew he had, because Malcolm is Lily’s biological father as well. The revelation forced Holden to confront an entirely new identity and an entirely new branch of his family.

For Lily, the twist reopened an even older chapter of her own history. She was raised believing Neil Winters was her father before the truth eventually emerged that Malcolm was her biological dad. That paternity secret once shook the Winters family, and decades later Malcolm’s bloodline produced another stunning surprise when Holden was revealed as his son. Suddenly, Lily’s complicated DNA history was no longer simply part of her past. It had created a new relationship in her present.

That history makes Holden’s dilemma in the August 24 episode especially significant. Billy offers Holden a major position if his Chancellor takeover succeeds. Holden is tempted because he feels his career is going nowhere under Cane, while Devon and Nate have given him little reason to believe the Winters family fully accepts him. He even questions how much loyalty he owes Lily when she is a sister he never knew existed until recently.

That question cuts directly into the DNA reveal. Blood made Holden and Lily siblings overnight, but DNA alone could not create years of shared memories, trust or loyalty. Holden has been forced to decide whether this newly discovered family bond actually means enough to influence his future. Billy’s offer puts a price on that question — and for a moment, Holden seriously considers choosing ambition.

Stephanie pushes him in the opposite direction. She reminds Holden of the person he has always been, even recalling how he defended another child when he was young. She also points to Cane’s role in saving Malcolm, bringing Holden’s biological father directly back into the conversation. Malcolm is therefore not merely background history in this choice. The father Holden discovered through a shocking secret becomes part of the emotional reason Holden must decide what “family” means now.

Then Holden goes directly to Lily.

Lily does not make the choice easy for him. She learns about Billy’s offer and forces Holden to decide which side he is really on. Billy can give him a potentially powerful job, but Lily frames the decision as something deeper than business: Holden can stand with his family or look out only for himself. She is also absolutely convinced Billy’s attempt to seize Chancellor will fail.

Holden finally chooses Lily.

His answer — that he has her back no matter what — brings the Malcolm DNA reveal full circle. When Holden first learned the truth, Lily was essentially a stranger carrying a shocking new title: sister. Now, when choosing between Billy’s promise of professional advancement and the sibling he only recently discovered, Holden chooses that sister.

The decision could also become strategically important for Lily. Billy believed Holden could be pulled to his side through ambition, but he underestimated a relationship that did not even exist in Holden’s world until the paternity bombshell changed everything. Lily now has Holden beside her while she quietly executes her own plan to stop Billy from taking Chancellor.

There is an especially powerful irony here. The same family history that once brought pain and confusion to Lily has now given her another person willing to stand beside her. Malcolm’s paternity reveal changed Lily’s identity years ago; Holden’s paternity reveal expanded that story into another generation of Winters family drama.

And Billy may have just discovered why blood can become more powerful than a business offer.

Holden had every reason to take Billy’s deal. He wanted momentum, recognition and a clearly defined future. Instead, when the moment arrived, he chose Lily.

The DNA bombshell did more than reveal Malcolm had another child.

It created the alliance Billy never saw coming.
