Beyond the Gates has spent more than a year making viewers believe the biggest bombshell surrounding Eva Thomas was already exposed: Ted Richardson is her biological father. But the story has repeatedly left another, far more dangerous question sitting in plain sight. What if Ted’s DNA was never the real secret? What if the shocking part of Eva’s parentage is the identity of her biological mother?
The possibility that Nicole Richardson is actually Eva’s biological mother has followed this storyline almost from the beginning. Fans began connecting the dots when Nicole and Ted’s history of fertility struggles became increasingly important. Nicole suffered multiple miscarriages, Kat was repeatedly described as their “miracle baby,” and the show made sure viewers knew that Ted and Nicole underwent fertility treatments. Those details suddenly matter a lot more if Eva’s conception was never as simple as Leslie has claimed.
The May 12, 2025 episode supplied one of the biggest clues. When Kat questioned whether Eva’s paternity results could have been faked, Nicole defended the test by explaining that it matched Ted’s blood type and genetic markers available from the fertility treatments she and Ted had undergone. That dialogue connected Eva’s DNA directly to Ted and Nicole’s reproductive history. Even more suspiciously, Martin referenced Chelsea’s observation that Kat and Eva seemed to have an almost “twin-like” connection.
That opens the door to a much darker explanation. Leslie could have obtained one of Nicole and Ted’s embryos during their fertility treatments and used it to become pregnant with Eva. Under that scenario, the paternity test would not necessarily be false at all. Ted really would be Eva’s biological father. The deception would be hidden on the other half of Eva’s DNA: Nicole, not Leslie, would be her biological mother.
Fans have been discussing almost exactly that scenario since the first months of the show. Primetimer viewers questioned whether Leslie could have stolen one of Ted and Nicole’s fertilized eggs, making Eva biologically theirs. Reddit discussions also repeatedly proposed that Leslie had access to an embryo or otherwise manipulated the circumstances surrounding Eva’s birth. The theory became prominent enough that soap coverage noted speculation that Eva could actually be Nicole’s daughter.
There is another version that could be even more devastating. Nicole could have actually carried Eva herself. Fans have pointed to the gaps in Nicole’s history of miscarriages and pregnancies, proposing that one pregnancy produced a living child whom Nicole believed had died. Leslie could have taken that baby and raised her as Eva. If that happened, Nicole has spent decades grieving a child who was alive the entire time — and that daughter eventually walked straight back into her home without either woman understanding their true connection.
The timing of this possibility has become especially interesting again because the August 2026 episodes are deliberately revisiting Ted and Nicole’s fertility crisis. In the August 20 flashback material, Ted specifically discussed Nicole’s miscarriages and her desperate focus on finding solutions to their fertility problems. Then, on August 26, Ted apologized to Nicole for leaving her emotionally alone while she was fighting to save their marriage and searching for answers to those same fertility struggles. The show is actively putting this history back in front of viewers.
If Eva is Nicole’s daughter, it would also completely transform Eva and Kat’s relationship. They would no longer simply be half-sisters connected through Ted. They would share both biological parents. Depending on exactly how the fertility timeline is ultimately explained, the repeated comparisons between the two women — including Leslie once describing them as practically twins — could take on an entirely different meaning.
Most importantly, this twist would expose Leslie’s greatest deception yet. Her entire hold over Eva has depended on the belief that she is Eva’s mother. Leslie used that relationship to manipulate Eva, weaponize her against Ted and Nicole, and drag her into a revenge campaign that ultimately devastated the Richardson family. But if Nicole supplied the other half of Eva’s DNA, Leslie did not simply lie about Ted. She stole Eva’s identity from her.
For now, the established story remains that Eva is the biological daughter produced by Ted and Leslie’s affair; the show has not confirmed the Nicole theory. But Beyond the Gates is once again digging into the fertility history that made this theory explode in the first place. If another DNA test ever examines both sides of Eva’s parentage, Ted being her father could suddenly become yesterday’s news.
Because the real bombshell would be far bigger:
Eva was never Leslie’s daughter to begin with. Nicole’s “miracle baby” story may have included another child all along.
