The couple is currently presenting a united front against Billy. After he claimed the Abbott family had a legitimate right to Chancellor, Lily offered to surrender the company if Billy could prove he was capable of leading it. She made that extraordinary offer without first consulting Cane, even though she had installed him as Chancellor’s CEO.
Cane’s anger exposed the real weakness in their relationship. He is supposedly Lily’s romantic and professional partner, yet she can erase his position with a single decision. Lily may trust Cane enough to sleep with him and let him run Chancellor, but she still treats the company—and their shared future—as something she alone controls.
Lily and Cane eventually decided that Billy’s discovery was probably not the final secret hidden inside Chancellor. They discussed allowing him to take control so that any additional scandal, debt or legal disaster would become his responsibility. It was a clever trap, but Billy’s upcoming announcement suggests he may already be one step ahead of them.
The exact content of Billy’s shocking news remains under wraps. He could have found stronger evidence that John Abbott’s financial rescue gave the Abbotts a legal claim to Chancellor. He may have contacted Jill and learned what she was desperately trying to hide. He could even have uncovered a liability so dangerous that Lily and Cane’s attempted setup will explode in their faces.
