Ava Jerome may have made the most dangerous mistake of her life on General Hospital. Drew Cain told her that the pill he supplied was merely intended to make Jack Brennan sleep, giving Drew enough time to search Brennan’s hotel room. But Ava never verified what the drug was, where it came from, or how strong it might be. She simply crushed it and slipped it into Brennan’s drink. That leaves one disturbing question: what if Drew lied?
This remains a theory, not a confirmed spoiler. Nothing aired so far proves that the pill was poison or that Drew intended to kill Brennan. Nevertheless, the show deliberately established Ava’s suspicion before she accepted the drug. She asked whether Drew was setting her up, yet proceeded with the plan anyway. That exchange could become important if Brennan suffers consequences far more serious than falling asleep.
Drew has an obvious reason to want Brennan neutralized. Brennan reportedly possesses evidence connected to Drew’s congressional campaign that could send Drew back to prison. Stealing one file might not solve that problem, especially if a former WSB chief keeps backups. Permanently removing Brennan would eliminate the person controlling the evidence—although it could also trigger safeguards Drew knows nothing about.
Ava would be the perfect person to take the blame. Drew provided the pill, but Ava was the one who put it into Brennan’s glass. If hotel cameras recorded the incident, they may show her tampering with his drink without capturing Drew’s earlier instructions. Drew could deny knowing anything about the drug and claim Ava acted independently because of her growing fear of Sonny Corinthos and the custody battle over Avery.
Ava’s history would make that accusation devastatingly believable. In 2016, she secretly replaced Morgan Corinthos’s bipolar medication with placebos because she wanted to disrupt his relationship with Kiki Jerome. Morgan did not realize that his medication had been compromised, and his mental health deteriorated. His increasingly unstable behavior eventually led him to steal Julian Jerome’s car.
Morgan was killed when that vehicle exploded. Olivia Jerome had planted the bomb and intended to kill Julian, so Ava did not directly murder Morgan or cause the explosion. However, her deliberate interference with Morgan’s medication was an important link in the chain of events that placed him inside that car. The tragedy established a lesson Ava should never have forgotten: once she manipulates someone with drugs, she cannot control what happens next.
That history now hangs over Brennan’s drink like a warning. As with Morgan, Brennan does not know that Ava has introduced an unknown substance into his body. Ava believes she can manage the outcome, but she is relying entirely on somebody else’s description of the drug. Even if Drew supplied a genuine sleeping pill, an excessive dose, alcohol interaction, allergy, or fall could turn his supposedly temporary solution into a medical emergency.
Upcoming teasers make the situation more suspicious without confirming the poison theory. Ava is expected to leap into action, Charlotte Cassadine becomes alarmed, Carly turns to Jason for help, and Ava later has to think quickly. Preview material also places Charlotte around the closed Metro Court pool at night. Some viewers consequently theorize that she could discover Brennan unconscious—or worse—near the water.
That theory should be treated carefully. There is no confirmation that Charlotte finds Brennan, that Brennan falls into the pool, or that the actor is leaving the show. The preview may be combining unrelated scenes to create suspense. Ava’s urgent action could mean she recognizes that Brennan has been drugged and saves him before anything irreversible happens.
A less extreme possibility may be even more convincing: Drew did not necessarily provide poison, but he may have lied about the dosage or danger. He needs Brennan incapacitated long enough to defeat hotel security and search the room. If the drug is stronger than Ava expected, Drew can accomplish his mission while leaving her responsible for the fallout.
The most revealing twist would be Drew deliberately exploiting Ava’s past. He may know that once investigators learn she drugged Brennan, memories of Morgan will make everyone assume the worst. Sonny, Carly, and Kristina would have powerful emotional reasons to believe Ava had repeated the same reckless behavior that contributed to Morgan’s death.
Whether the pill is poison, an dangerously strong sedative, or exactly what Drew claimed, Ava has already placed herself in jeopardy. Morgan’s tragedy proves that the deadliest consequence may not be the drug itself, but the unpredictable chain reaction that follows. If Brennan does not wake up as expected, Ava may finally realize Drew never recruited her as an equal. He may have selected her as his perfect scapegoat.
