Sally Spectra’s worst nightmare may be about to strike twice. The latest Young and the Restless preview shows the pregnant redhead suddenly experiencing sharp abdominal pain, immediately raising fears that her baby with Billy Abbott is in danger. But what if this terrifying crisis is only the beginning of a much bigger twist—one that brings Sally’s supposedly dead daughter back into her life?
Official spoilers confirm that Sally will question Billy’s commitment to their future as he becomes increasingly consumed by his battle for Chancellor. Billy is preparing to deliver shocking news to Lily Winters and Cane Ashby, while Sally appears to be dealing with her pregnancy crisis without his full attention. If Billy is absent when Sally needs him most, their relationship could suffer damage that no wedding plan can repair.
The preview does not officially confirm that Sally loses her baby. Nevertheless, viewers are understandably worried. Sally has already endured the devastating death of Ava Hope Spectra, the daughter she conceived with Adam Newman. Forcing her to experience another pregnancy loss would be exceptionally cruel—but that emotional devastation could also create the opening for one of Y&R’s most explosive reversals.
In June 2023, Sally was rushed to Genoa City Memorial with dangerous liver enzyme and platelet levels. Doctors feared placental abruption and warned that both Sally and her premature baby could die. With Sally unconscious, Adam was forced to make an impossible decision. He chose to save Sally, and Elena Dawson later told him that the medical team could not save both mother and child.
Sally was subsequently informed that her daughter had died. She named the baby Ava Hope Spectra, honoring Adam’s late mother, Hope. Sally even held the child and said goodbye, making Ava’s death appear definitive. Adam and Sally spent years mourning the daughter they believed they had lost.
That farewell scene creates the biggest obstacle to an Ava resurrection. Y&R could not simply claim that doctors made a mistake. If Ava survived, the baby Sally held would have to have been another premature infant. Someone must have switched the identification bands, falsified the records and removed the real Ava before Sally was allowed to say goodbye.
As outrageous as that sounds, it would hardly be unprecedented in Genoa City. Victoria Newman and Cole Howard believed their daughter Eve had died, only to learn decades later that Claire Grace was their missing child. Christian Newman was declared dead before being secretly raised by Sharon as Sully. Y&R has repeatedly proven that a hospital death certificate does not always end a child’s story.
Fans have already discussed the possibility that Ava is alive. Some believe she could have been secretly adopted after an illegal hospital transfer. Others have suggested that Victor Newman arranged the disappearance because he wanted control over another Newman heir. Adam called Victor from the hospital during Sally’s original emergency, so Victor knew exactly when the crisis was unfolding.
There is currently no evidence that Victor took Ava, however. A more believable explanation would involve an illegal adoption scheme or a corrupt hospital employee. Ava could have spent the last three years being raised by a family who had no idea that her records were fraudulent.
The current pregnancy crisis could expose that deception. While doctors treat Sally, a review of her medical history might reveal inconsistencies in Ava’s records. A missing identification number, altered neonatal file or unexpected DNA match could force the hospital to reopen the 2023 case.
Imagine Sally losing Billy’s baby and waking up to find Adam beside her. He is the only person who fully understands what Ava’s death did to her because he carries the same grief. Then, just as Sally believes motherhood has been taken from her forever, Adam receives an impossible message: a three-year-old girl has been identified as their biological daughter.
Ava’s return would transform every major relationship around Sally. Adam would insist on helping raise his daughter, drawing him away from Chelsea Lawson and back into Sally’s orbit. Billy would be grieving his own unborn child while watching Sally form a family with the man he despises. Connor Newman would discover he has a little sister, and Victor would immediately attempt to bring Ava into the Newman dynasty.
The twist would also divide viewers. Many fans desperately want Sally to deliver her current baby safely and would consider a second loss emotionally exploitative. Others would object that resurrecting Ava cheapens the powerful performances surrounding her death. But another group argues that if Claire, Christian and Diane Jenkins could return from the dead, Ava can too.
Y&R would need to explain every detail, especially the child Sally held in the hospital. Yet if the writers solve that continuity problem, Ava’s return could become the show’s most shocking baby story in years.
