SPOILER THEORY: Kelly Monaco has not been confirmed to return to General Hospital, and Sam McCall remains dead in the show’s current canon. But if GH ever wanted the perfect storyline to bring Sam back from the dead, Drew may have just created it himself.

The biggest reason is Scout. Drew has been determined to control who gets access to his daughter, even shutting Alexis and Danny out of her life. Scout has made it clear that she misses her brother and her mother’s side of the family, but Drew continues to insist that he knows what is best for her. What he sees as protection is beginning to look more like isolation — and that could become the emotional trigger for Sam’s impossible return.
Alexis certainly isn’t backing down. She has already confronted Drew over Scout and is becoming increasingly desperate to regain access to her granddaughter. Her willingness to use dangerous information against Willow proves how far she may be prepared to go when her family is threatened. Alexis is fighting for Scout because Sam cannot.
But what happens if Sam suddenly can?
Imagine Drew preparing for another confrontation with Alexis, only for the elevator doors to open and Sam McCall to walk out.
That single moment could change everything.
Sam would return to discover that Scout has been separated from Danny and the Davis family while Drew has become consumed by grudges, enemies and revenge. Sam spent years protecting her children from danger, so learning that Scout has become trapped in the middle of Drew’s personal wars could unleash a version of Sam that Port Charles has not seen in years.
And Danny could make the situation even more explosive.
Danny has been desperate to remain part of Scout’s life. Instead of simply accepting Drew’s rules, he has been searching for ways around them, even discussing how to fight back. Now Danny is also headed toward an important confession to Jason. Whatever he reveals could pull Jason deeper into the crisis surrounding Sam’s children.
That gives GH an enormous opportunity.
Sam’s return would not have to be about immediately reuniting her with Jason romantically. It could begin with two parents realizing that the children Sam left behind have been thrown into chaos. Jason could be the person who helps Sam understand everything that happened during her absence — including exactly what Drew has become.
Meanwhile, Scout and Rocco are about to uncover a secret of their own. If that discovery creates even more trouble for Scout, the timing becomes almost too perfect. Drew may believe he can control the people surrounding his daughter, but Scout’s world is becoming increasingly difficult to contain.
Then comes the obvious problem: Sam is dead.
But this is General Hospital.
Port Charles has never treated death as an obstacle that cannot be overcome. GH would only need one hidden piece of information to reopen Sam’s story. Perhaps the medical records surrounding her death were manipulated. Perhaps someone secretly intervened after everyone believed she was gone. Or perhaps Sam survived but was unable to return because of captivity, memory loss or manipulated memories.
The most explosive possibility would be that someone deliberately kept Sam away.
That would turn her resurrection into something much bigger than a surprise comeback. Sam could return with an entirely new mystery attached to her: Who saved her? Who kept her hidden? Why was she prevented from contacting Danny and Scout? And did someone in Port Charles know the truth all along?
Suddenly, Sam’s return would not erase her death storyline. It would transform it.
Drew could also become the perfect first target for her anger. He is already moving deeper into revenge and preparing another dangerous act. He may believe Alexis, Danny and everyone else challenging him can eventually be controlled or defeated.
Sam would be different.
She is Scout’s mother.
No legal threat, family argument or personal grudge could erase that connection. If Sam walked back into Port Charles alive, Drew’s control over Scout could collapse overnight — and every decision he has made involving their daughter could suddenly come under scrutiny.
That is why the current storyline may have accidentally created the strongest opening yet for a Sam McCall resurrection.
Scout misses her family. Danny is fighting to reach his sister. Alexis is running out of patience. Jason is about to be pulled further into Danny’s secrets. Drew is becoming more dangerous.
Everyone is fighting over what Sam left behind.
But imagine the shock if Sam returned to fight for it herself.
Drew thinks he is preparing for another war.
He may have no idea that the one person capable of blowing his entire world apart could be the woman Port Charles buried.
Sam McCall.
