ANITA CAN’T HIT THE NOTES — AND LESLIE CAN SING: BTG MAY BE SETTING UP BARBARA’S DAUGHTER TO TAKE THE PLACE HER MOTHER LOST

Beyond the Gates may have just planted the most dangerous twist yet in the Articulettes storyline. Anita is struggling to recover the voice that made her a star, while Leslie suddenly controls something the group desperately needs: access to Barbara’s archived vocals. But Leslie is not simply signing those recordings away. She wants a seat inside the recording sessions—and if Anita cannot deliver when the music starts, Barbara’s daughter could be perfectly positioned to claim the place her mother lost decades ago.

The warning sign came when Anita attempted to sing with Sharon and Tracy. The reunion should have been an emotional reminder of everything the Articulettes once represented, but Anita struggled when the song reached the higher notes. Sharon and Tracy could no longer ignore the obvious. Anita was not ready for a public performance. That problem becomes much bigger now that the group is trying to move forward with new music.

At the same time, Barbara has unexpectedly become essential to the Articulettes’ future. The producer wants to incorporate Barbara’s archived voice into the new EP, creating a chance to finally give the late original member the musical recognition she was denied. There is just one major obstacle: the group cannot simply use Barbara’s vocals. They need Leslie’s permission.

That completely changes the balance of power between Leslie and Anita.

Leslie did not immediately block the project. Instead, she attached conditions to her cooperation. She wants to be present during the recording sessions, and she wants a prominent producer credit. Anita immediately viewed the demands as excessive, but Sharon and Tracy understood the uncomfortable reality. If Barbara’s voice is essential to the project, Leslie cannot simply be pushed aside.

That recording-room demand could be far more important than it initially appears. Leslie is not asking only for money or recognition on paper. She wants physical access to the place where Barbara’s musical legacy will be reconstructed. Once Leslie is inside that room, BTG has an obvious opportunity to take this storyline somewhere much bigger.

Because Leslie can sing.

That detail becomes impossible to dismiss when Anita’s own voice is currently unreliable. What happens if Anita gets into the studio and still cannot hit the notes? What happens if a deadline is approaching and the Articulettes suddenly need another voice? Leslie would already be there, standing beside the recordings of the mother she never had the chance to know.

The possibility creates an extraordinary reversal of Barbara’s history.

Barbara helped form the foundation of the Articulettes, only to lose her place while Anita continued forward with the group. Anita has carried guilt over what happened for years. Now, decades later, Barbara’s voice is needed to complete a new Articulettes project—and Barbara’s daughter holds the leverage.

Imagine Leslie finally hearing Barbara’s isolated vocals inside the studio. Instead of treating them as an asset to negotiate over, she begins singing along. Sharon and Tracy hear something they were not expecting. The producer hears it too. Suddenly the question is no longer whether Leslie should be allowed in the room.

It becomes whether Leslie belongs on the record.

That would put Anita in an almost impossible position. Rejecting Leslie could look disturbingly similar to what happened to Barbara. Accepting her could mean allowing the daughter of the woman Anita failed to protect to occupy space inside the group Anita spent decades defining.

And there is an even more explosive possibility. If Anita’s vocal problems continue, Leslie may not simply join the Articulettes project alongside her.

She could temporarily take Anita’s place.

Nothing in the current spoilers confirms that Leslie will replace Anita, so that remains a theory. But BTG has now assembled all the pieces needed to make it happen: Anita cannot fully rely on her voice, Leslie can sing, Barbara’s recordings are needed, Leslie controls access to those recordings, and Leslie has specifically demanded involvement in the studio.

The upcoming confrontation between Anita and Leslie should reveal how far Leslie intends to push her newfound leverage. Vernon and Eva are trying to bring the women together, while Anita, Leslie, Eva and Vernon are later forced to “face the music” together. That wording feels especially loaded when an actual recording project is at the center of their conflict.

The biggest twist, however, may be that Leslie is not really fighting for a producer credit at all.

She could be fighting for the seat Barbara never got back.

And if Anita’s voice fails at exactly the wrong moment, Barbara’s daughter may finally have the opportunity to walk into the Articulettes and reclaim it herself.
