General Hospital may have introduced Agent Baines as the new man holding power inside the WSB, but there is already one dangerous question hanging over him: Who is Baines really? His arrival feels almost too convenient. Jack Brennan is gone, the WSB needs someone to fill the vacuum, and suddenly Baines is standing exactly where Brennan used to stand. On the surface, that looks like a simple replacement. But in Port Charles, simple replacements rarely stay simple for long.
The biggest clue may be the timing. Brennan had become deeply entangled with people and problems far beyond the normal boundaries of a WSB director. His connections to Carly, Josslyn and Port Charles made his position increasingly complicated. If the WSB believed Brennan had become compromised, then replacing him may not have been a decision made after everything went wrong. The organization could have been preparing for Jack’s removal long before anyone realized his days were numbered.
That possibility completely changes the meaning of Baines’ arrival. Instead of being the man sent to clean up the aftermath, Baines could have been part of the plan from the beginning. One fan even suggested that his mission was to take Jack out and assume his position because Brennan had been compromised.
