Sally’s recent pregnancy scare has already exposed just how deeply her pregnancy affects Adam. The moment he learned something had gone wrong, his concern was impossible to hide. Sally and the baby were safe, but for Adam, the news immediately reopened memories of the daughter he and Sally lost years ago. Ava may be gone, but Adam’s trauma surrounding that terrible night clearly is not.
That makes another emergency far more dangerous emotionally. Sally believes this pregnancy can have a different ending, and Billy is preparing for the future they have been building together. After the doctors confirm the baby is safe, Sally could quietly thank Adam for refusing to give up. Adam looks at her, overwhelmed by the memory of the daughter they could not save, and finally admits why he fought so hard.
“I couldn’t save Ava. I wasn’t going to lose another piece of you.”
That would leave Sally speechless — and Billy with a question he cannot ignore.
