The Young and the Restless may be getting ready to answer the one question hanging over Billy Abbott’s shocking Chancellor discovery: Why hasn’t anyone simply called Jill? Billy found the old agreement connecting John Abbott to Phillip Chancellor’s desperate loan, Lily knows Jill may have known far more than she ever admitted, and Amanda is now digging into the history surrounding the deal. But one phone call from Lily could blow this mystery apart — because Jill’s answer may lead straight back to Katherine Chancellor.
Lily has every reason to make that call now. She and Cane have already discussed the possibility that Jill knew about the agreement, with Cane suggesting Jill may have kept quiet because she never wanted Billy controlling Chancellor. Lily even admitted she wished Jill had warned her. At some point, however, speculation is no longer enough. Lily needs to hear the truth directly from the woman who may have been sitting on it for years.
Imagine Lily finally asking the simplest question: “Jill, did you know Phillip borrowed that money from John?” Jill’s silence could answer before she ever says a word. Yes, she knew. But that would only be the beginning. Lily could immediately accuse Jill of hiding the agreement to stop Billy from claiming Chancellor, only for Jill to reveal that everyone has been asking the wrong question.
The real secret may be Katherine.
Billy’s document tells the beginning of the story: Phillip Chancellor needed help, John Abbott provided it, and an agreement was created that Billy now believes could give the Abbotts a claim to Chancellor. What Billy still cannot explain is what happened afterward. John lived for years without taking Chancellor. Katherine continued controlling the company. If the agreement remained enforceable, why did the battle Billy is fighting today never happen while John and Katherine were alive?
That missing period creates the perfect place for Katherine to reenter the story without rewriting her history or bringing her back from the dead. Katherine may have discovered Phillip’s secret arrangement after his death and confronted John herself. Whatever happened during that confrontation could be the part of Chancellor history Billy has never seen.
And Jill may have known all along.
The bombshell could come when Lily demands to know why Jill never told Billy. Jill could finally break a promise she has protected for years and utter five words capable of changing the entire fight:
“Katherine made me promise silence.”
Suddenly, Jill’s behavior would look completely different. Cane assumes Jill kept Billy in the dark because she feared what he would do with Chancellor. But what if that is only half the truth? Jill may not have been protecting the company from Billy. She may have been honoring something Katherine specifically asked her never to reveal.
That possibility fits the complicated history between Jill and Katherine. They spent decades fighting, competing and hurting each other, yet their relationship ultimately became far deeper than a simple rivalry. Katherine even left Jill a complicated trail after her death involving the Chancellor estate, hidden valuables, a key, a safety-deposit box and a personal letter. Katherine entrusting Jill with one final Chancellor secret would therefore carry enormous emotional weight.
The next question would be even more explosive: What exactly did Katherine forbid Jill from revealing?
Perhaps Katherine learned about Phillip’s debt and privately settled the matter with John. Perhaps John released Chancellor from the obligation rather than taking the company. Or perhaps Katherine and John created a second agreement that changed everything contained in the first. Any of those outcomes would explain the contradiction Billy has not solved: John apparently had the opportunity to pursue Chancellor, yet he never did.
The strongest twist would not make Billy’s document fake. It would make it incomplete.
Billy may have discovered Phillip’s agreement with John and assumed he had uncovered the entire secret. But Katherine could represent the missing second half of the transaction. If she privately resolved the debt with John and later told Jill what happened, then Billy has been building a war around the first chapter of a story whose ending was deliberately buried.
That also gives Amanda’s investigation a much bigger purpose. She does not need to prove Billy forged anything. She only needs to uncover evidence that something happened after Phillip signed the original agreement. A reference to Katherine, an old settlement, a release, or even a missing second document could suddenly force Lily to confront Jill again.
And that may be when Jill finally tells Billy what Katherine never wanted him to know.
Billy believes he is fighting for John Abbott’s legacy. But the cruelest possible revelation would be that John and Katherine already settled this battle decades ago — and deliberately chose not to turn Phillip’s loan into an Abbott takeover of Chancellor.
If Lily finally makes that call, the biggest surprise may not be that Jill knew about the loan.
It may be that Katherine made sure Jill knew the truth Billy was never supposed to find.
