General Hospital may be setting up one of Tracy Quartermaine’s coldest moves yet, and this time Willow may not be the only person caught in the crossfire. With Michael and Tracy preparing to work together as Willow’s problems intensify, there is a brutal possibility hiding underneath the spoilers: they could use Willow herself to bring down Chase.
Chase has already made the first mistake. After learning that Brook Lynn helped frame Willow over the Route 91 accident, he walked out on his wife and went straight to the gatehouse. He has since moved out of the Quartermaine mansion and even consulted Alexis about a legal separation. Brook Lynn convinced him not to file the papers yet, but their marriage is hanging by a thread.
That makes the timing of Michael and Tracy’s new alliance impossible to ignore. Tracy has spent months warning everyone about Willow, while Michael already has leverage he can use against his ex. Instead of immediately exposing everything they know, however, Tracy could convince Michael to do something far more dangerous: wait.
Tracy has already learned the hard way that attacking Willow directly only makes Chase defend her. When Tracy confronted Willow at the boathouse, Willow spotted Chase approaching and turned the situation to her advantage. Chase ended up rescuing Willow and arresting Tracy. From Tracy’s perspective, trying to tell Chase the truth clearly does not work.
So why tell him anything at all?
Tracy could urge Michael to stop fighting Chase’s connection to Willow and let it grow instead. Chase is angry with Brook Lynn, emotionally vulnerable and convinced Willow was unfairly targeted. Willow, meanwhile, has already repeatedly turned to Chase and is living right on the Quartermaine property. Give those two enough room, and Tracy may believe they will eventually expose themselves.
Michael would have another reason to play along. He does not need Chase to fall in love with Willow. He simply needs Willow to trust Chase enough to start talking. If she believes Chase is completely on her side, she could reveal details about Michael’s leverage, Drew or the secrets she has desperately tried to control.
That is when the trap could snap shut.
Instead of Michael approaching Chase and accusing Willow of lying, Chase could hear Willow’s version first. Michael could then finally show him what he has been holding back. If even one detail contradicts what Willow just told Chase, the detective in him would take over.
Suddenly, Chase would not have to trust Michael or Tracy. He could investigate Willow himself.
That would be the perfect punishment. Chase has spent months insisting that Willow has been kind to him and defending their increasingly uncomfortable closeness. Brook Lynn repeatedly feared Willow was trying to work her way back into Chase’s life, while Tracy openly warned that her granddaughter’s marriage was in danger.
Chase discovering the truth himself would force him to confront the possibility that Brook Lynn and Tracy saw something he refused to see.
But Tracy’s plan could contain an even crueler second act.
By the time Chase realizes he was wrong about Willow, Tracy may no longer want him back with Brook Lynn.
Chase did not merely become angry with his wife. He left their home, discussed legal separation and continued giving Willow the benefit of the doubt after Brook Lynn had repeatedly expressed how threatened she felt by their connection. Tracy could decide that Brook Lynn and Phoebe deserve better than waiting for Chase to figure out which woman he believes.
That would explain why Michael and Tracy’s move against Willow could also finish Chase and Brook Lynn’s marriage.
Michael gets what he wants if Willow damages her own position. Tracy gets what she wants if Chase finally exposes where his loyalty really lies. Neither of them has to manufacture another scandal. They simply have to stop protecting Chase and Willow from the consequences of their own choices.
The cruelest ending would come when Chase finally returns to Brook Lynn.
He could arrive at the Quartermaine mansion carrying the truth Michael wanted him to discover and admit the words Brook Lynn has been waiting months to hear: he was wrong about Willow.
But this time, Brook Lynn may not beg him to stay.
Tracy could make sure her granddaughter understands that discovering the truth does not erase everything Chase did before discovering it. He chose to leave. He chose separation. And when Brook Lynn needed him to believe in their marriage, he chose to believe Willow instead.
That would leave Michael and Tracy with the perfect victory.
Willow loses the man who kept defending her. Chase loses the woman who kept waiting for him. And Tracy never has to push either one over the edge.
She only has to give Willow and Chase enough rope to do it themselves.
