Matt Clark has spent years occupying one of the darkest chapters in Nick and Sharon Newman’s history. His return does not simply revive an old enemy. It brings back a period when a calculated lie about Sharon’s pregnancy helped drive a wedge between two people who were already facing unimaginable pain.
The most revealing evidence from that story is not a secret that still needs a new DNA test.
It is a paternity result that already proved Matt’s claim false.
Before his apparent death, Matt told Nick that he had raped Sharon. When Sharon became pregnant, Nick questioned whether the baby was his. The conflict intensified, and Sharon later delivered prematurely after a fall. The baby was stillborn. A paternity test confirmed that Nick, not Matt, was the father.
That established result is the emotional foundation of a far more personal confrontation than another generic revenge plot.
Matt’s ability to unsettle Nick and Sharon has always depended on reaching into memories they cannot simply erase. He does not need to invent a new crime to remind them of what they lost. His presence alone can bring that period back into focus.
But what if Sharon refuses to let him control the story this time?
Rather than allowing Matt to dictate the terms of another encounter, Sharon could return to the old medical file and find the document that answered the question Nick once feared most.
The result would not be a shocking revelation about a different father.
It would be the proof that Matt used a false claim to make Nick doubt his connection to a child he would never get the chance to raise.

His doubts during Sharon’s pregnancy did not arise in isolation. Matt planted them. Nick then had to live with the consequences of a question he never should have been forced to ask.
For Sharon, reopening the file would be an act of reclaiming the story of her child.

There is also a compelling role for Phyllis if the storyline brings her into Matt’s orbit again. She knows how damaging buried information can become in the Newman family. She also has her own history with Sharon and paternity deception, particularly the later crisis involving Summer.
Phyllis could recognize that Matt’s greatest weapon is not necessarily something new he has discovered. It is his ability to make people question facts that were settled long ago.
That observation would connect two different eras of Genoa City history without pretending they are the same case.
The important question is what Sharon does once she has the document in front of her.
She could keep it private, protecting herself from another painful conversation. Or she could confront Matt with it and refuse to let him distort the memory of her child again.
Either choice would belong to Sharon.
And that is the point of this angle.
Matt once inserted himself into the most vulnerable part of Nick and Sharon’s relationship by making them doubt the truth. Reopening the old file would let Sharon answer him with the one thing he cannot rewrite through intimidation or another performance.
The result already exists.
Nick was the father.
The baby was theirs.
And Matt’s lie does not get to become a mystery again simply because he has returned.
