SPOILER ALERT: Heather Armstrong may have made the most devastating mistake of her entire Impaler operation on September 21, and she did it while celebrating what she believed was a perfect victory. By purchasing Uptown, Heather thought she had secured control of the very location connected to the evidence against Smitty. But her aggressive takeover has pushed Joey into action, and his next move could lead straight to the one piece of evidence Heather cannot afford to have discovered: the original surveillance footage from February 4.
Heather appeared remarkably comfortable at Uptown. The bartender welcomed her with champagne, Vanessa arrived for a friendly conversation, and Heather seemed determined to enjoy her new position as the establishment’s owner. From her perspective, everything was falling into place. She had gained control of an important location while continuing to manipulate the people around her.
Unfortunately for Heather, Joey was not celebrating.
Joey had intended to purchase Uptown as a surprise for Vanessa. Discovering that Heather had acquired it first immediately raised his suspicions. Rather than accept the situation, he summoned Randy and ordered him to investigate the transaction. His instructions were unusually specific: Randy needed to find Leon Kaminsky, the previous owner, and determine whether Heather’s purchase was as secure as she believed.
That detail could become the crack in Heather’s entire operation.
Joey reminded Randy that Leon had previously agreed to contact him first if he ever decided to sell. Heather’s sudden acquisition therefore created more than a personal disagreement between two siblings. It introduced questions about the transaction itself, the previous owner’s involvement, and what might have remained outside Heather’s control when ownership changed hands.
And that brings the story back to Smitty.
Heather’s campaign against him has depended on surveillance footage connected to his February 4 meeting with Max at Uptown. The altered recording was designed to make their encounter appear connected to Lia’s death. Its manipulated timing and the suspicious purple pouch created an apparent link between Smitty and the evidence investigators were examining.
The real question is no longer whether Heather is capable of manufacturing evidence. It is whether she successfully eliminated every version of the recording that could expose what she did.
Purchasing Uptown may have given Heather access to the establishment and its current security arrangements. But ownership of a building does not necessarily mean ownership of every archived recording, backup drive, or transaction document created before the sale.
Leon Kaminsky could therefore become far more important than Heather anticipated.
If Leon retained copies of the surveillance system’s older recordings, Randy’s investigation could uncover material Heather never knew existed. An archived file from February 4 could reveal the original timing of Smitty’s meeting with Max. It could also establish whether the purple pouch appeared in the encounter as Heather’s altered footage suggested.
One discrepancy would be enough to reopen the entire question of Smitty’s involvement.
Imagine Joey discovering that the recording used to implicate Smitty does not match the original footage. Suddenly, Heather’s expensive purchase would look less like a business opportunity and more like an attempt to control a crime scene.
Joey would have another reason to question his sister’s motives, and Randy would find himself holding information that could change the direction of the Impaler investigation.
The consequences would extend well beyond Smitty.
If the footage was deliberately altered, investigators would need to determine who had access to the original recording, when the changes were made, and why Heather was so determined to acquire Uptown. Those questions could lead directly back to Lia’s death and the larger plasma operation Heather has been struggling to protect.
It could also explain why Heather has worked so hard to keep Smitty under suspicion. An innocent man facing serious allegations has far less freedom to investigate the criminal organization that framed him.
But Heather’s biggest problem may be Joey himself.
She knows how dangerous her brother can become when someone interferes with his plans. She also knows he has secrets of his own, particularly concerning Doug and Vanessa. Yet she still chose to take something Joey wanted, forcing him to investigate a transaction that might otherwise have escaped scrutiny.
That is the September 21 slip that could destroy her.
Heather did not accidentally confess. She did not leave an incriminating document on a table. Instead, she made a calculated move that created an entirely new investigation into the location at the center of her deception.
And Joey has already sent Randy to the one man who could hold the missing piece.
If Leon still possesses the original Uptown recording, Heather’s attempt to bury the truth could become the very reason it finally comes to light. The Impaler may have controlled the edited video, but the footage she never knew existed could expose her deadliest lie.
