THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS SPOILERS
Victor Newman knows how to make a gesture look generous while keeping his real intentions carefully concealed. His September 25 surprise for Nikki appears to be another attempt to show his wife that her happiness matters more than his endless battles. But Jack Abbott could discover that Victor’s gift carries a second purpose—one that reaches directly into the Abbott family’s business interests. And the detail that exposes the plan is not hidden in a secret recording or an anonymous warning. It is sitting in the paperwork Nikki receives with her gift.
Nikki is touched when Victor presents her with an opportunity connected to a project she has wanted to pursue independently. He assures her that he has arranged the necessary support and that she will not have to fight through another complicated business negotiation to make it happen. For once, Nikki wants to accept the gesture without questioning what Victor expects in return. But a routine review of the agreement reveals something unusual.
One of the supporting companies listed in the documents has recently acquired an interest in a supplier that also works with Jabot. Nikki does not immediately recognize the significance. She knows Victor has business interests across Genoa City, and the connection seems too indirect to suggest anything improper. Jack sees it differently.
When he learns that a Jabot supplier has changed ownership, he asks his team to review the transaction. The purchase appears legitimate, but the timing catches his attention. The ownership change occurred shortly before Victor finalized Nikki’s new arrangement. Then Jack discovers a second document. The supplier’s new agreement contains a provision allowing its parent company to renegotiate certain services if another client undergoes a change in ownership or management.
That client is connected to the Abbott business. Jack realizes Victor may have created leverage over Jabot without purchasing a single Abbott share. Instead of attacking Jack directly, Victor has placed himself close enough to an important business relationship to create uncertainty whenever he chooses. Diane is furious when Jack explains what he has found. She believes Victor is using Nikki as cover for another attack, and she wants Jack to confront him immediately.
Jack refuses to move until he knows whether Nikki understands what she has been given. That decision leads to an uncomfortable conversation. Nikki initially dismisses Jack’s concerns as another example of the rivalry between her husband and the Abbotts. But Jack shows her the provision linking Victor’s new business arrangement to the supplier. For the first time, Nikki sees that her gift may have consequences Victor never mentioned.
She takes the documents home and asks Victor a simple question: why does an agreement intended to help her contain language that could affect Jack’s company? Victor insists the arrangement protects their interests. He argues that any advantage involving Jabot is incidental and that Nikki should not allow Jack to ruin something meant for her. But Nikki notices what he does not say. He never denies knowing about the Abbott connection.
Her suspicion deepens when she finds a separate page attached to Victor’s original proposal. It outlines an optional expansion that would give Nikki’s project access to another business asset if a particular supplier agreement were renegotiated. The expansion would benefit Nikki. It would also increase Victor’s influence over a company Jack relies upon.
Nikki now understands the second plan. Victor has not necessarily given her something worthless or fraudulent. The gift may genuinely help her achieve what she wants. But he has arranged it so that her success and his advantage over Jack become linked. That is the part he never asked her to approve. Meanwhile, Jack faces a problem of his own. If he publicly challenges the arrangement, Victor can accuse him of interfering with Nikki’s opportunity. If he remains silent, the Abbott family may lose negotiating power before anyone realizes the danger.
Diane urges Jack to expose the entire agreement. Jack instead decides to approach Nikki with a proposal that could separate her project from the supplier arrangement. The move puts Nikki in control of the next confrontation. When Victor discovers that Jack has offered her an alternative, he demands to know whether she intends to trust his rival over her own husband. Nikki answers with a question that leaves Victor without his usual escape:
“IF THIS GIFT WAS FOR ME, WHY DID YOU NEED JACK TO LOSE SOMETHING?” The real shock is not that Victor has another plan involving the Abbotts. It is that Nikki may refuse to let him carry it out in her name. And Jack has found a way to challenge Victor without making Nikki the enemy.
