Diane Jenkins may think she is digging for ammunition against Vibrante, but her obsession with Nikki Newman could be about to uncover something far more explosive than a business advantage. After openly clashing with Nikki and admitting that she wants to see her rival’s new venture “go down in flames,” Diane has every reason to keep investigating even after promising Jack Abbott that she is ready to let the feud go.
That promise may be the first warning sign. Jack wants peace, and Diane knows that openly escalating the war would put her at odds with her husband. So if Diane continues digging, she may have to do it quietly — and Vibrante’s past could give her exactly the opening she needs.
Diane might initially be searching for something simple: an old ownership record, an abandoned trademark, a former investor, or evidence that Nikki had more help building Vibrante than she has admitted. Instead, one forgotten name buried in the company’s older paperwork could stop Diane cold.
The name itself may mean nothing to anyone else. To Diane, however, it could connect directly to a person from the Newmans’ past.
That is where a corporate investigation could suddenly become a family mystery.
Rather than finding a DNA test literally stored in Vibrante’s files, Diane could use that forgotten name to trace an older legal trail. An archived agreement could lead to an estate record. The estate record could point toward a confidential family dispute. And somewhere inside that chain could be the document Diane never expected to find: an old DNA test whose existence was apparently buried years ago.
The most dangerous possibility would not simply be that the test exists. It would be that its result conflicts with the version of Newman family history everyone currently accepts.
That would immediately change Diane’s motivation.
Destroying Vibrante would suddenly become secondary. If Diane realizes she is holding evidence capable of detonating a Newman family secret, she would possess something far more valuable than a competitive advantage against Nikki.
She would have leverage.
There is also an important reason Diane might hesitate before confronting Nikki. Jack has already warned her against turning their rivalry into an all-out war. Diane has assured him that she will focus on Jabot and Jabot Classic instead of Nikki. If Jack discovers that Diane secretly continued investigating Vibrante — and uncovered confidential Newman information in the process — the revelation could create a crisis inside their own marriage.
That makes secrecy essential.
Diane could hide the DNA report while quietly trying to identify exactly who knew about it. Was Nikki aware of the test? Did Victor know? Was the truth deliberately suppressed, or did someone make sure the document disappeared before the Newman family could ever see it?
And there is another dangerous question: why would the name connected to that DNA mystery appear anywhere in Vibrante’s history?
Perhaps the person once controlled an asset that eventually became part of the company. Perhaps an old financial arrangement links the two stories. Or perhaps Nikki unknowingly inherited something whose real origin was concealed from her.
Whatever the explanation, Diane’s original mission would have completely changed.
She began looking for a weakness in Nikki’s company.
She may end up finding a weakness inside the Newman family itself.
The timing would make the discovery even more explosive. Nikki and Diane have just declared what amounts to open war, while Jack is already trapped between his wife and his longtime friend. Victor, meanwhile, is encouraging Nikki to focus on making Vibrante successful rather than becoming distracted by Diane.
None of them would be prepared for Diane to emerge with evidence that has nothing to do with cosmetics, branding, or a corporate launch.
And if Diane chooses to use that DNA secret against Nikki, she could make the exact mistake Jack warned her not to make. Her attempt to destroy Nikki might push Jack even further toward protecting his old friend — while giving Victor a reason to enter the battle personally.
Diane wanted to find the secret that could bring Vibrante down.
Instead, she may have uncovered the buried name that could blow the Newman family apart.
