Michael searches deeper into public records and finds a death certificate carrying the exact name he has been investigating: Marie Kirkland. The dates are impossible to ignore. According to the record, the real Marie Kirkland died years before Nick ever walked into rehab and met the woman now using her name.

And Nick would be the perfect target.
Matt would not need to physically attack him. He would only need to put the right vulnerable person in Nick’s path and allow Nick’s own instincts to do the rest. Nick wants to rescue Marie. He wants to protect her. He was even willing to sacrifice himself after Logan’s death.
That makes Michael’s discovery especially dangerous.
Michael may eventually sit alone with Marie’s old file open in front of him, preparing to call Nick with the truth. But before he reaches for his phone, he notices one final detail buried inside the documents — something proving Marie and Matt crossed paths years before Nick met her.
At that moment, Michael realizes this case was never only about Logan’s death.
